Positives were that the customer service was good, examiner seemed nice and slot booking through laptop was seamless. Negatives were, business seemed like a fly-by-night operation at the Hillsboro location, no nameplate for business, only 1 examiner despite high demand, no cars marked with their logo, no drive test (for me). As DMV drive tests were booked for months and my permit was about to expire soon, and since I did not have a car, I booked 2 drive tests with SODE, 1 week apart in mid March...
of 22, since they were a DMV approved 3rd party testing business who had cars in which I could administer the test. They cancelled the first slot because the examiner was sick, which they notified me early in the morning on the day of the test. I was grateful to receive the heads up. The second slot had to be rescheduled because the DMV website was apparently down across Oregon when I went in for the test. They could not reschedule this one as they were completely booked at the Hillsboro location and the dates they offered, didnt match my availability. Their website was mobile friendly when it came to looking at available slots and I was able to book slots seamlessly from my laptop. When I did arrive at the Hillsboro location for my test (on the 2nd try), I was a bit surprised not to see any signs of their business. Seemed like a shared office space with a common receptionist who told me to wait for the examiner. Even on the signs outside the suite there was no mention of Southern Oregon Driver Education, despite other businesses being named on the list, which were sharing the same office suite space. It also seemed like only 1 examiner was available in the Hillsboro location. Furthermore in the parking lot, I did not observe any cars marked with their logo. I did not have a car of my own, so I was hoping to use their car. However, it was not meant to be. According to the examiner, the DMV website was down and that is why we could not proceed with the test. I was a bit surprised that there were no non-electronic options or fail-safes for a physical drive test. But I rolled with it, sometimes *life* happens. The examiner at SODE seemed nice and had a great beard. I was offered slots in the following week, after I faced my second cancellation, but it didnt work out because our availabilities did not match. Their customer service seemed pretty nice as well. They were able to cancel my slot and issue me full refunds for both my slots. These guys do not charge a processing fee yet for double booking or issuing refunds. In the end, as I was really close to permit expiry, I was able to get my drive test done in time, with a different third party testing business, farther away from Hillsboro, in the Beaverton area.
Took my driver s test here with Jon Walker. I was really nervous going into it but Jon s kindness and professionalism calmed my nerves. Passed my driver s test first try with him! While I was waiting for Jon, I also met Liz Harris who ended up testing someone else at the same time. She also seemed really chill and professional! Haven t met Bob Jones but from the other reviews he seems great as well! If you are planning to take a driver s test, definitely recommend going here! It does not matter...
who you end up taking the test with, as the entire team seems super nice! One downside though is that leading up to the test, I had a question regarding what I could bring for documentation regarding car insurance. Emailed over this question on Tuesday and did not get an email back until after my test (which was on Friday). Thankfully, the documentation was the right one to bring! Just recommend emailing questions at least a week in advanced if you have any or else you may not get an answer in time. Other than that I had a great experience!
